5 Types of House Extension

Building a home extension is such a fun project. Once a design has been approved, all the fine details are finalised, and planning permissions are granted we are ready to start! 

There are lots of different types of house extension so deciding what you want for your home can sometimes be difficult. Today we are going to get into some of the different types of house extension and explain what they are.

Porches – 

Porches are the small kind of house extension that is added to the front of the house. These can be built a lot larger though. Typical examples include simple structures of only brick walls, columns, windows, and a door. Larger and more elaborate versions can be bare brick or plastered and have electrical installation in order to get light and electric sockets. 

Conservatories –  

Conservatories are simple structures that are made from UPVC, timber or aluminium. You may need planning and commissions to get a conservatory done but some may not need this. 

Sunrooms –  

A sunroom is very similar to a conservatory with a solid roof extension types and walls and glazing. These are sturdy, warm and bring in a lot of sunlight. Due to this being a more complex project and higher costs being involved, it is important to employ a good architect and building company. 

Single Story House Extension –  

When you want a new room or a room extension with a vaulted ceiling that uses the pitched roof space, a single storey house extension is what you need. 

Single storey house extensions are built onto a part of the house whereby one or more sides of the extension is attached to the property and there is only the ground floor plus any basement built to it. Single storey extensions require building control, but they might not require planning permission!

Single Storey Rear Extension –  

This provides plenty of extra space to your home and has the potential to change your home in the best way! This type of house extension idea can include internal property alterations such as an open your kitchen to your back garden and create an open-plan area that can be used as a combined kitchen, dining and living area. You will benefit from size increase and this gives you so much more freedom with what you could do in your home.
